part of ... New Product Review from Flylife Issue 86 Summer 2016/17 .....
South Pacific Fly Rods celebrated their 10th Anniversary during 2016, in what has been a decade of innovation and commitment to designing world class fly fishing equipment. An increasing number of rod companies are developing one single high performance fly rod within their range, capable of covering the widest spread of fishing applications possible, and with its Anniversary release the South Pacific SX series joins this group. The advantages are pretty obvious, particularly in regard to saving costs by lessening the number of rods needed to cover your fishing when travelling or at home.
The fast progressive action has plenty of reserve power when needed to deliver long casts, while also able to present flies gently and accurately at short distances. The smooth action of the SX series is effortless to cast and performs way above what would be expected from a mid-price rod. There’s a lot on offer when you consider the price, quality of the componentry, and performance level, but perhaps the biggest bonus is the ‘If you break it, We replace it, No questions asked’ guarantee. When you seriously consider the SX series, it starts to become clear why this Australian fly rod company has achieved such success over the past decade.

“There was a real excitement amongst the design team when it was planned to develop a ‘One Fly Rod’ within the range. Having the New Generation Nano materials at hand we knew we could produce a rod that would stand alongside any similar rod in the market, and not only match it, but bring something extra by building with the Pac Bay Minima4 stripping guides. What we’ve achieved is very exciting. There’s going to be a lot of fly fishers surprised at the price of the SX rods, and even more surprised at their performance when they get them in their hands“
Newly developed high modulus aerospace-grade materials have taken Nano technology one step further producing the lightest weight to strength ratio ever developed. South Pacific's newly released fly rod series utilise this advanced Nano technology to move far beyond current blank builds and deliver exceptionally high quality advanced fly rods that stand alongside any international world class brand.
Nano technology has been arguably the most significant development in the advancement of fly rod design since the introduction of carbon fibre. In recent times serious fly rod companies have been able to utilise Nano technology to develop a ‘One single high performance fly rod’ within their rod range. These rods are capable of performing across a wide range of fishing applications. The advantages are pretty obvious, particularly in regard to saving costs by lessening the number of rods needed to cover your fishing when travelling or at home. In the past, rod designers were limited to producing rods mainly suiting a single application. The Nano SX series are fast progressive action rods that can be fished across a wide spread of fishing applications. The SX rods have plenty of reserve power to deliver long casts, while also able to present flies gently and accurately at short distances. The Nano SX series are world class fly rods waiting for you to experience the ‘One fly rod’ revolution.
The smooth action of the SX series is effortless to cast and performs way above what would be expected from a mid-price rod. The Satin Black blanks are fitted out with the very best in componentry from PAC BAY International USA, including triple anodised double uplock reel seats, AA cork handles and non-flash black oversize snake guides/tips. In addition, the PAC BAY minima4 stripping guides used on our high-end rods are now also featured on the mid-priced SX series. Designed specifically for fly rods, the stamped guide inserts maximise inner guide diameters, resulting in longer casting distances than ever experienced. South Pacific were the first Australian company to build with Pacific Bay International USA componentry.
The 4 section rods in the SX range are 9ft long and available in 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10wts. The lower weight rods are set-up with reverse half-wells grips. The higher weight rods feature full-wells grips with EVA/cork butts.
